4. Guide in creating Prompt Instructions

Create or write effective prompt instructions in Doc Consult (see below 5. prompt examples as a reference guide).

Here are some of the tips in writing:

  • Define Clear Objectives: Determine what you want to accomplish with the prompt.

  • Specificity and Clarity: Make your prompts as specific and clear as possible. Having generic prompts will yield different responses versus a specific one..

  • Length and Structure: Keep prompts concise yet comprehensive. Structure them in a logical order to ensure clarity.

  • Use of Context: Provide necessary context within the prompt. Background information or specific details can guide the AI to generate better responses. It can include background information, tone, or setting.

  • Understand the Audience: Know who will be interacting with the AI and tailor the prompt accordingly. Consider language, complexity, and context that will be most effective for your target audience.

  • Leverage Examples: Show examples of desired outcomes if possible. This can guide the AI’s understanding of what is expected.

  • Use Structured Prompts:

    • Bullet Points: For multiple questions or complex information, use bullet points to organise the prompt.

    • Step-by-Step Instructions: When seeking procedural information, break down the request into clear, sequential steps.

  • Testing and Refinement: Test different versions of your prompts and refine them based on the outputs.

  • Anticipate Ambiguity:

    • Clarify Potential Confusions: Identify areas where misinterpretation could occur and provide clarifications.

    • Follow-Up Questions: Include follow-up prompts or sub-questions to cover different aspects of the main query.

5. Prompt Instruction examples
